Above is a 3 fold promo card and envelope that Jonas and I worked on recently. We designed logo forms for each letter of our url, which were then screen printed by hand onto 150gsm paper.

London Graphic Centre

Jonas and I finally got round to shooting the bag-for-life that we designed for London Graphic Centre at the end of last year. The design intended to reflect the store's artistic customer base, by being made up of words from the creative process. We used Richard Serra's Verb List (1962-68) as a starting point and came up with a one colour typographic illustration. The bags were printed double sided. We also produced a limited edition A1 poster, which was screen printed in silver ink onto 300gsm card (below).

Been in the archives recently trying to organise and photograph all of my work to date. This one brings back some good memories, poster design for a hip hop night started at university. I was well into Reid Miles work for Blue Note records at the time, which you can tell. I've got a 20 min promo mix that I did for the night somewhere if any one wants a copy...

I just found out how cheap you can get A1 b/w copies produced at most hight street printers - so i made this one for my friend Iria's birthday. Of course - a big old nod to Trevor Jackson's Soulwax artwork. But you already knew that. The song 'Everytime she turns around it's her birthday' is by Manitoba. But you probably already knew that as well.

Jonas and I have been working on a series of prints for London Graphic Centre's first birthday in Clerkenwell. We took lots of photographs of objects, cut them out (god bless the 'live trace' function in Illustrator) and then created different forms out of the smaller pieces. This one's a bit gaudy looking. So ugly that's it not. Know what I mean? I don't. x

I thought I'd put this one out there. I recorded this mix back in September '07. The concept was to do a technical battle mix in one take, with no overdubs. There are a few fuck ups, but I think I like that. Pockets

I found this small triangle of paper in the pocket of my shirt this week. I turned it over and on the back I had written a wish. It was one that obviously didn't make it on to the Wish Tree (here) at Glastonbury this summer. I am now starting to record the surprises and stories relating to the things found in pockets. (Like when Bryn got kicked out of the Silent Disco for smoking a joint and when they searched him they found a handful of wooden knives and forks in his pocket. He'll have to explain that one). I like these little moments that make you smile. I'm gonna hang onto the wish until next year's festival.

Reflections

I am currently taking photographs of reflections. My favourite results so far come when you shoot through glass. Images begin to look like multiple exposures, which is fun because you aren't actually doing anything difficult or technical and because you're often not quite sure what you're looking at. This one was taken at my favorite time of day, when the sun gets hazy before it goes down, out the window on a train. I like the movement of the trees and the lights in the carriage.

Image Dictionary

Last week Laura sent me this photograph. Apparently it comes up when you do an image search for the word 'Scowl'. I love it's ambiguity and it got me thinking about collecting the strange images you find when looking up different words. Like a visual dictionary of found images. If you find any good ones then please let me know.

I've been collecting images relating to Milton Glaiser's 'I heart NY' logo. I was in the pub last week with friends and we were talking about collections of photographs which have consistent themes through out them (like Stephen Gill's Billboard project). I like the charm of recognising a recurring detail in each image. Anyway, we agreed to all go away and start collecting.

It's interesting to see how the heart logo has been appropriated in so many differrent ways. Most of the time you don't even need to see the whole thing to recognise it. It's fun having to approach strangers, making sure I always have a camera and keeping my eyes peeled for little red hearts.

Book Cover

I recently finished an image for a book cover for my friend Michael. His novel is called "It Is Better To Marry Than To Burn". It is a story about a monk who falls in love and is torn between his lifelong vows and momentary gratification.

I tore pieces of paper, made cardboard struts for them, stood them up, knocked them over, stood them up again and took a photo with some make-shift lighting. It was amusing trying to make something to represent fragility that kept collapsing every time I touched it. You can read the whole thing (there goes any publishing deal) at www.littleboylost.com
